That sounds lovely Kate! I remember carolers coming to our house when I was little (on the east coast U.S.), but I honestly have not seen that out here on the west coast. Definitely something I miss!
a fabulous commnet by Rhoda about Susan Rice:Rhoda 2 commnets collapsed Collapse ExpandHello, POU! I hope everything is going well with everyone; and lamh I read about your move. Good luck and congratulations! So, just got online to read the paper and some blogs and the Susan Rice story about her ties to Kagame and blaming her for issues in Rwanda makes it clear IMO that the Clintonistas don’t want a woman in the SoS position for one reason. It diminishes Hillary,I was watching Meet the Press and as everyone is falling all over themselves to praise Hillary Helene Cooper accidentally told the truth: she couldn’t think of anything Hillary herself has done as SoS to distinguish herself. Think about it. She had Holbrooke running the talks to end the war in Afghanistan. She hasn’t touched the Isreal/Palestine issue (and the administration has backed off from there). She was on the wrong side of ending the war in Afghanistan. She was against the Bin Laden raid. She was isolated in Foggy Bottom. And POTUS sent John Kerry out to speak for him in Iran, in Afghanistan, and in Iraq frequently. She blew the Russian reset thing big time. She’s been a decent Secretary of State; but she’s done nothing to make a name for herself because she’s been incredibly cautious and I’d argue she doesn’t have the President’s ear or share his values on a lot of decisions. Meanwhile, Rice does. Susan Rice is close to POUTS. She has his trust. And she has been on the winning side of many policy fights; which is why Hillary’s camp particularly loathes her. POTUS made the UN Secretary a cabinet chair so she reports directly to him and not Hillary as has been the case before. They are worried in a second term POTUS will go all out to deal with the Israel/Palestine situation (and in backing Israel so hard he’ll have real chits to play at home), that he will engage deeply on trade issues with China and Asia, that the European Union (which is facing a deep crisis) will be a major diplomatic and economic challenge for America, and that doesn’t even delve into Iran and the overtures for diplomacy as well as the Arab Spring fallout. These are a consequential four years and they’re worried that Susan Rice will make a name for herself a’la Kissinger and with Hillary likely running in 2016 that is a problem. They fear a challenger saying Hillary did a good job; but look Susan Rice did better. Given how she didn’t make a name for herself in the senate and we’ve got tape of Sinbad clowning her in ’07; Hillary has a lot of vulnerabilities going into a primary that are masked right now. But the Clintonaistas see and know them; and they’re trying to burnish her legacy by having Kerry follow her. The comparisons then won’t be as clear or odious to them; and if brought up can be spun as sexist. That’s my opinion; but I think POTUS is going to give Susan Rice the job. Just as he did Geithner when everyone and their mother tried to take him down. I don’t know what’s going to happen in four years. But you can put me down in the anyone but Hillary bandwagon.
Hi Mabel. Thanks for your question and sorry for the slow reply. Due to isesus outside our control, we haven’t had a May winner. The good news is we will be picking TWO WINNERS in June to make sure we catch up!! Keep snapping!!
Isn’t marriage baalcsliy the same as keeping him as a pet? You’ll have to potty train him, occasionally feed him and he’ll try to hump your leg (and other things around him).

Here is a bit of irony. I went to an educational lrteuce this evening as a PTA representative. The talk was given by a guy named Will Richardson, his subject was using blogs, wickis, podcasts etc… in the classroom. The fact that educators and parents need to help kids use the tools and information, not bar them from it. So I came home and checked out his website found a search place for blogs, and found this one! I’ve been in PTA, the real affiliated one, for about fourteen years. I have stayed with it because at its heart it is a child advocacy organization and encourages parent involvement in education, its hard to argue with that. I don’t think of myself as the average “PTA Mom” either. I drive a Prius and live on a farm. I understand the negative outlook, not every PTA functions in the way the state and national organizations encourage them to function. Getting Dads involved is a major initiative of PTAs across the country. You are right it is mostly female, but it doesn’t have to be. One of my ideas is for PTAs to have “single parent nights” who knows maybe PTA meetings can become a good way to find a date, and become involed in your kid’s school at the same time. You may not think of yourself as PTA material, but there is a good chance that the people who are active in PTA at your school do some good stuff that may even benefit your child. Buying a five dollar membership is probably a pretty painless way to support the programs that the PTA sponsors. Check out the national PTA website http://www.pta.org. You might be surprised!
Something doesn’t quite translate bwteeen blogger and wordpress so if this looks fuzzy to you please check it out on the old blog at mischiefmanaged96.blogspot.comThanks and sorry for the inconvenience,Amy
Go Julie!! Thanks for posting that. Nice to see Julie and the insdie scoop on your convention trip. I was also excited to hear about the bill that may help repay student loans. I may benefit from that one of these days!
Wow, I just happened acsors this and I am honored to even be mentioned. Thank you!Just for clarification, I didn’t get this from Pretty in Punk or Punk Knitting.. This was something that I started doing a little before the book came out, and I have been considerate of not reproducing their patterns. (And I’ve never seen the book called Punk Knitting.)But I have had personal correspondence with Alice of Pretty in Punk and would encourage you to go the their site and buy their hats as well. There’s been several knitted mohawks out there over the years and they get all the credit for reviving them.I don’t have a pattern out for my hats, and don’t plan on it. I have no reason to start putting out copy cat patterns for people. But anyhow- Thanks again for mentioning my shop A year ago :0)Shows how often I look for myself online!
Would a Jewish or Islamic youth group have been denied posimsrien to hire the camp?Would a group of children with no religious affiliation have been turned away?I would have thought that a Christian run business could claim that other religions or groups with no religious affiliation offend their religious creed and ethos, however I can’t see any such prohibition on the camp’s website. If you are in the business of a service industry and take money to hire out your facilities, that is in the public square which has laws against discrimination. It is not as if the litigant group sought to rent their church hall.
