Virgin Mobile Festival - Complete

Image of stageIt took me a long time to just get down to it. Dribs and drabs were flowing, but I was a little overwhelmed until I came up with a way to organize and display the images from two weeks ago.

I shot the Virgin Mobile Festival for two days in Baltimore, MD on August 9th and 10th. I came back with a lot of pictures. The set (sets?) linked to below covers almost everything I shot. I put up JPGs (shot RAW+Jpg) from the camera with some cropping for composition. I didn’t have enough time or inspiration to edit and tweak each one – just too many. :)

I think I did alright, but see a few areas where I need to work on my technique. Something to look forward to…

Virgin Mobile Festival Teaser

Picture of Iggy Pop

Went to the Virgin Mobile Festival in Baltimore over the weekend to shoot (thanks, Dave @ Bumpershine).

A lot of acts on the bill, including Stone temple Pilots, Nine Inch Nails, Bob Dylan, Kanye West, Foo Fighters, Iggy and The Stooges, Lil Wayne, Chuck Berry, and many more. Bob and Kanye weren’t having it with the photographers, so no dice there for what would have been some great shots.

Here is a teaser gallery (while I sort through the 43GB of images I took).

Bell @ Joe's Pub

Bell @ Joe's PubHad an open Friday night and went to see Bell at Joe’s Public. She’s really coming into her own, even getting into SPIN magazine. If you get the opportunity, check her/them out.

Performance was great, and if you’re interested – pick up the EP here. $5 well spent. For more on the band, follow this link over to their MySpace page.

Pearly Turns Five!

Pearly CatOn Saturday I went to Pearl’s to celebrate her fifth birthday. Clowns, cake, kids, and oh – sangria (not for the kids). :)

Had a great time, and while the pictures aren’t my greatest work it brought me great pleasure to take them. Happy Birthday Pearl!

My First Photo Pass

Went to Terminal 5 in NYC on Wednesday to shoot a show (thanks, Dave @ Bumpershine). Datarock opened for Ladytron. Pretty rocking show (for the electro-synthy-types, anyway). I’m a new Ladytron fan (even if their lighting kept challenging me to get a decent shot). Datarock brought their Fa Fas – and were much easier to shoot. The galleries show that pretty clearly (I think).

I did alright for a first go… tougher than I imagined. Lighting is changing every second, bass is pounding, and it gets crowded in the pit. It’s also predominantly dark and everything is flashing lights and vibration, then there’s the band bouncing around. Moving targets are hard to hit.

I might should’ve stayed at ISO 1600 or above, but I wanted to see how far I could push my a700. I was up against some Nikons, a Canon, and a Leica… Don’t know that I can do much against a Leica and some of the other high-end kits – but I’m happy with my haul. :P

Special thanks to Tristen and the person whose name I forgot at Filter Magazine and Derek (the tour manager) for helping me get my missing photo pass.

Now for the Pics:
