Updates... or lack thereof

Timmeh!
It’s been awhile since I’ve built galleries and uploaded them here. I might get back to that eventually, but until then – most everything is ending up on Flickr. :)

Griffinshot’s Flickr Photostream!

Or BrooklynVegan.

Or Bumpershine.

And now — Rolling Stone. :)

TechSet @ Eden NYC/Web2Expo

image from techset nycWent to TechSet @ Eden NYC last night to support Empressr (it was a nerd gathering related to Web2Expo). Lots of low-light shots, and with a firmware upgrade I’m better able to shoot ISO2000 without having the picture become digital garbage.

If I took yer pic and told you it would be here – it is. Follow the link below. :)

Illinois, Stellastarr, The Kooks

picture of kooks lead singerWent to Rumsey Field (Central Park Summerstage) to see and shoot Illinois, Stellastar, and The Kooks tonight for Bumpershine (Thanks Dave!).

Fun show, though the stage lighting caused me a few problems here and there. Being back to only one camera body, I remembered how much I don’t like to change lenses during the performances. This venue gave me three songs worth of shooting time per act – and I probably needed all of it.

In other news: I (pre) ordered the new Sony a900 today… I am really hoping for a big boost in high ISO shot quality, but so far nothing really stands out in the reviews. That will bring me back to two-body shooting, all for the low low price of $3K + Tax. Ouch.

Wondering if I shouldn’t just cancel the order, hock all my Sony gear, and hop on the Nikon Bandwagon… nah, too easy. I can always jump ship later. I may lose several hundred on the body, but at least I won’t wonder how the a900 is/was.

Macrofied

picture of watch - macroI bought a set of extension tubes today (Rokunar 13, 21, and 31 for Maxxum) and decided to play with some non-typical macro shots tonight.

I used a 50 f1.4, 50 f3.5, 100 f2.8, 135 f2.8, 500 f8, and a 70-200 2.8G. I got a little bored early on and upped the ante by stacking all of the tubes on top of a kenko teleplus pro 300 ×1.4 on top of a kenko teleplus Pro 300 ×2. Dragged out the giant tripod and I was good to go.

While absolute sharpness and a lot of light were missing (used my 56AM flash), the results turned out much better than expected. EXIF should be intact below images to see which is which. I didn’t bother cropping down, so the images are the fullsize view resized to a max 800×800.

Mixed Bag, with more cat.

Picture of a catSome shots from APW (including the back of Stuart ‘I play drums for The Police’ Copeland’s head). Also some shots of my new buddy, Mr. S. Tray Katt. There’s also one after I cut my hair, checking to make sure I still looked presentable.

Back to the cat… haven’t really worked on a name for him – so it’s just ‘Kitty’ for now. I’ve gotten as far as de-flea-ing him, and I’ll see where it goes from there.

He is a stray, and it is a lot easier tending to a cat than trying to spread world peace (a task which I may not be cut-out for). So far the main downsides are the hundreds of mini scratches on my hand left after ‘playing’. Teeth are involved, but fortunately they’ve never broken the skin.

I need another event to shoot before this turns into a cat blog. :)
